Appearance and features
The innovation is realized in an elegant and reserved silver style, enabling to place emphasis on the image of its owner. The entire appearance and specifications of HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Ultrabook indicate that in your hands you’re holding not a fashion accessory but your personal tool! In this model, the designers have abandoned all fashion trends in notebook production. With the emphasis on the maximum product comfort and functionality.
The first thing that catches the eye is the monitor. As distinct from the modern tendency for using glossy displays, this model features a matted screen. It uses LED and features relatively low resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, its diagonal makes up 14 inches. Using such monitor type has a positive effect on the laptop operational comfort; continuous screen glare will not draw you away from your work, and using it in bright conditions will cause no problems either.
HP has also used several non-standard solutions for such class as ultrabooks. The main of them is a detachable battery and a possibility to connect an additional enhanced battery. Thanks to such approach, EliteBook Folio 9470m has received excellent results for autonomous operation time – up to 21 hours!
Despite compact dimensions of 33.8х23.1х1.89cm, the new ultrabook model has a full size keyboard with backlit keys that simplifies considerably the laptop use in circumstances when there’s lack of light, e.g., during flights or railway travel. In addition, an opening is envisaged for draining liquid that might get onto the keyboard. A point stick, many professionals caught the fancy of, with two functional keys, will become a pleasant supplement, while using it, you can control a mouse pointer with your hands on the keyboard. The notebook features a touchpad of special protective glass. It has two functional keys, supports recognition of several touches, and various gestures.
The rear panel of the model is absolutely free from any slots or ports. All of them have been brought to the side edges that in combination with a small, only 1.63kg, weight has had a positive effect on this notebook’s operational comfort.
Build and setup options
HP EliteBook Folio 9470m Laptop is positioned as a device designed for business users and it fully satisfies the buyers’ expectations. The build basis is Mobile Intel QM77 Express chipset, specially designed for such class notebook able to satisfy requirements of the most demanding corporate users.
The model is manufactured in four versions of the central third-generation Intel Core processor. The minimum setup consists of Intel Core i3-3217U processor with 1.8 GHz clock frequency, and the maximum Intel Core i7-3667U with the highest frequency of 3.2 GHz (in Turbo mode). That, in combination with RAM which can be 16 GB maximum, allows problem-free application of the entire scope of up-to-date software. And if you have a moment to spare, the notebook performance will be sufficient even for some sophisticated games.
Communication options in this model are represented on the highest level. A network card with speed up to 1 Gbps and three USB ports version 3.0. will allow for prompt information exchange. Wireless communication interfaces may consist of either a ‘modest’ set represented by WiFi module, operating with speed up to 150 Mbps or the latest solutions: two-range WiFi card, providing the highest speed of 300 Mbps and Bluetooth version 4.0. 3G or 4G modems are optional. With such arsenal, you may rest assured that you’ll always be able to exchange necessary information fast, no matter where you are at the moment: in your office, at the presentation party, in a café or airport. To store your information, setup options are envisaged both with classic hard drives up to 500 GB capacity, and with SSD of 256 GB maximum. As is the case with all notebooks, there’s a card reader.
Security is above all
A business class device must not only have high performance and feature rich communication options but possess high reliability and information security. Beside such already familiar options as Kensington lock, face recognition, a slot for smart card connection, and optional fingerprint scanner, more advanced security systems have been designed. The brand function HP 3D DriveGuard will protect from damage to the information on the hard drive, in the event of the laptop fall.
And in the event of the ultrabook theft or loss, it will be protected by Intel Anti-Theft Technology. It will block the device automatically or in response to your signal via mobile networks or the Internet. Nobody but you will succeed in its unblocking; a notice that the device has been blocked and the request to return it will be displayed at the device activation. In case of the information tank withdrawal, confidential data on it will be encrypted reliably thanks to built-in TPM chip.
Fujitsu LifeBook U772 Ultrabook is positioned as a professional solution that one starts understanding immediately after acquaintance with the unpretentious box in which decoration not a designer but a packing specialist has been apparently engaged. A pound to a penny, that man’s hobby is origami skills that has directly affected the design of the two cardboard boxes for the notebook and accessories (see the ultrabook unpacking process in video review).
The first surprises nicely with a pleasingly falling-out instruction block and separately located popping out “shelf” with the charging device. To open the second box, one should think a bit and in return be awarded for the solved puzzle with a port replicator with a single power supply and a serious selection of optional connectors.
