In the new Windows-8-based sector of ultrabooks market, the MSI Slider S20 convertible can hardly be ignored. It features a screen that can be pushed back over a full QWERTY keyboard to convert the ultrabook into a fully-fledged Windows 8 tablet and vice versa.

To keep the MSI S20’s weight down, the manufacturer used sturdy gray plastic. Though the build quality is not impressive, the transformer feels ultra light, smooth and manageable.

On the dimensions side, the Slider S20 measures around 0.8 inches thick, weighs in at a nice 2.9 pounds, and will go on sale with an 11.6-inch display. In turn, the display sports a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels which is common for convertibles running Windows 8. In addition, the touch panel supports 10-finger capacitive multi-touch, so it can handle up to 10 simultaneous finger presses.

In terms of connectivity options, the MSI’s S20 techno wonder comes with a limited selection of ports: a USB 3.0 for much faster data transfers (as fast as 5,000 mbps), Bluetooth 4.0 for speedy wireless connections that save battery, an HDMI-out (connects any HD audio or video device to the user’s system with a single input), an Ethernet port, and a headphone jack.

For the moment there is not much information on specifications and performance. However, according to the manufacturer, the MSI Slider S20 will be available in the USA stores with a third-generation Intel Core (Ivy Bridge) chip under the hood coupled with 4GB of installed RAM. In addition it will be based on the Chief River platform and capable of delivering up to impressive 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.

MSI isn’t sharing too many details about the prices. Currently we know that the S20 convertible ultrabook is expected to strike the buyers with the prices starting at around $1,000 which makes the device a pretty expensive toy.

As soon as the reviewed Slider gets available on the market, yours truly at ultrabooksreview.com will be excited to offer the most relevant info including best prices, detailed reviews and specifications.
